Sesame Carnival 2016 Band Launch

Sesame Flyers Mas Camp has done it again! This year’s Sesame Carnival 2016 Band Launch, the official kick-off of Carnival Season, brought out beautiful and sexy costumes themed around Carnival Fantasy. Female and male models danced to the beat of soca as they showcased the bright attires designed by Sesame Carnival, Stronjeh Creations, Exotica Ladies and Desma Incorporated.

For this year’s theme, Carnival Fantasy, the Sesame Flyers Mas Camp wanted to be inspired by the masqueraders. As a result, the garments were created to reflect people’s ideas of their ‘Dream Carnival Costume’. The names of the costumes, Flutter, Shaoqiang, Essence of Peace, Tribal Fantasy, Jungle Fever, Forbidden Angel, Freedom and many more, were chosen to represent their meanings. For instance, Flutter represents the butterfly costume, while Essence of Peace stands for the colorful, floral and fairy costume collection.

You can get your hands on any of these costumes so you can shine on Eastern Parkway this September 5th, 2016. Register now by calling the Sesame Hotline at 718-693-0500 or sending a message to masinfo@sesamecarnival.com. For more information, visit our website

Soca SocialPartnership with Soca Social

The Sesame Flyers Mas Camp carnival costumes were in full display at Angel of Harlem on Sunday, July 3rd. On the heels of a new partnership with Lamin Nqobe of Soca Social, we held our first joint event at the renowned Caribbean restaurant to bring our culture to Harlem. Models danced as they showcased this year’s beautiful costumes inside and outside of the restaurant, and caught the eyes of pedestrians who stopped by to watch and take pictures with them.

People Hall Of FameSesame's Executive Director Curtis Nelson Among City Lore's 2016 People's Hall Of Fame

The work of Sesame Flyers and Executive Director Curtis Nelson hasn’t gone unnoticed! This year, City Lore, an organization focused in promoting New York’s art diversity, added Nelson to its list of People’s Hall of Fame recipients for his dedication to promoting Caribbean culture year round. Nelson is among a group of individuals who have greatly contributed to bringing and preserving the many cultures that make up New York’s melting pot. At Sesame Flyers, people get a taste of the Caribbean culture through its masquerades, steel pan orchestra and many programs aimed at helping the Brooklyn youth develop and stay in touch with its heritage.

Nelson, a native of Trinidad, has been with the organization since 1991. After leaving his corporate engineering job in Boston to connect more with his culture, He joined Sesame Flyers as a volunteer, and became Vice-President under Director Winston Munroe, then President, and now the Executive Director. Under his leadership, Sesame Flyers has grown tremendously. Today, the organization administrates five successful community centers in Brooklyn among others, and holds its mark at the annual Labor Day parades winning Band of the Year for 12 consecutive years.
