July marks the start of the
Sesame Flyers International Summer Youth Employment Program. It
marks the beginning of a season of learning, growth, and opportunity for
young participants. Through engaging activities, participants build
confidence, develop leadership skills, and create lasting friendships.
The program also benefits the community by investing in its youth and
encouraging positive values, teamwork, and civic engagement. Together,
these experiences help shape responsible future leaders and contribute
to a stronger community.! |

As we celebrate another exciting summer season, I want to take a moment to reflect on what has truly been one of the most memorable and rewarding months in Sesame Flyers International's history. June was a celebration of community, culture, service, and excellence. During Caribbean American Heritage Month, Sesame Flyers International was deeply honored to receive four distinguished recognitions from the New York City Council, the Neighborhood Technical Assistance Clinic (NTAC), the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office, and the Caribbean American Center of New York (CACNY). These awards recognize more than four decades of service to Brooklyn and New York City, and they belong to every staff member, volunteer, board member, sponsor, partner, parent, and supporter who has helped build this organization. One of the highlights of the month was returning our Caribbean Essence Awards & Showcase and Sesame Carnival Band Launch to the Brooklyn Children's Museum. Returning to the Museum was especially meaningful, as it is home to Sesame Flyers' permanent Caribbean cultural exhibit—a lasting reminder of our commitment to preserving and sharing the rich history and traditions of our community. Our Showcase gave us the opportunity to recognize outstanding scholarship recipients and community leaders whose achievements inspire us all. It also reminded us that investing in people is one of the greatest ways we can strengthen our future. The evening concluded with the unveiling of our 2026 Carnival presentation, Rhythm of the Renaissance. This year's theme celebrates rhythm as the heartbeat of Caribbean culture—from the traditional drums of our ancestors and the sounds of Tamboo Bamboo to the steel pan and today's modern sound systems. Rhythm has always united our people through music, movement, celebration, and love. It continues to connect generations while keeping our culture vibrant and alive.
These events also demonstrated that culture is more than celebration—it is an investment in our community. Every event supports designers, musicians, performers, costume makers, photographers, caterers, and countless small businesses that make up the Caribbean creative economy. By supporting culture, we are helping preserve traditions while creating opportunities for future generations. As you read this newsletter, I hope you share in the pride of all that we have accomplished together. Thank you for your continued support, your partnership, and your belief in our mission. Because of you, Sesame Flyers International continues to make a lasting difference in the lives of young people, families, and our community. The Sesame Flyers International Sports Day was an action-packed celebration of athleticism, teamwork, and community spirit! Participants of all ages brought their competitive energy to the field, eager to claim victory in exciting events including the 60-meter dash, 100-meter sprint, egg-and-spoon race, and many more crowd-favorite competitions. From the starting whistle to the final race, the day was filled with determination, laughter, and enthusiastic cheers as families, friends, and supporters celebrated every achievement. Whether competing for first place or simply enjoying the experience, everyone played a part in creating an atmosphere of fun, sportsmanship, and unity.

On May 16, 2026, Sesame Flyers International, in partnership with Bildersee Beacon, proudly hosted a successful Community Health Fair in Brooklyn, bringing together families, community partners, and residents for a day of health, wellness, and community engagement. The event served as a vibrant hub where attendees gained access to valuable health information, wellness resources, and essential community services designed to promote healthier lifestyles and overall well-being. Participants had the opportunity to connect directly with healthcare providers, community organizations, and service agencies while learning about programs and support available throughout the neighborhood. In addition to health and wellness resources, guests enjoyed complimentary food and clothing, engaging family-friendly activities, uplifting music, and a welcoming atmosphere that fostered meaningful connections among community members of all ages. The Community Health Fair reflected Sesame Flyers International's ongoing commitment to strengthening communities by creating opportunities for education, support, and engagement. Families, friends, and community members gathered to witness an unforgettable evening filled with dynamic dance performances, electrifying step routines, powerful drumming presentations, and inspiring displays of talent. Each performance reflected the passion, discipline, and teamwork our participants have developed throughout the year while proudly showcasing the rich cultural traditions and artistic expressions that are at the heart of the Clarkson Compass Program. More than just a showcase, the event was a celebration of growth, confidence, leadership, and community. Our participants took to the stage with pride, demonstrating the skills they have cultivated and the lasting friendships they have built through their participation in the program. As we celebrate the end of another remarkable year, we extend our sincere gratitude to our dedicated instructors, volunteers, families, supporters, and community partners whose encouragement and commitment continue to make the Clarkson Compass Program a meaningful and enriching experience for every participant.
