The pain and uncertainty are
overwhelming—but even in the darkest moments, the strength of our shared
humanity shines through. Now is the time to come together, to lift one
another up, and to turn compassion into action. Across our towns and
cities, local relief drives and community efforts are mobilizing to
bring hope and help where it’s needed most. Whether you give your time,
donate supplies, or contribute to trusted relief organizations, every
act of kindness makes a difference. Together, we can help our neighbors
rebuild and remind them that they are not alone. |

Our hearts are heavy as we witness the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa. Homes have been destroyed, lives uprooted, and communities left without power, water, and essential supplies. Our strength has always been our unity, and now it’s time to show that solidarity in action. Below are several local relief drives and community events where you can lend your support, donate needed supplies, or contribute directly to trusted relief efforts.

The Sesame Clubhouse and our
After-School Beacon Programs were transformed into haunted havens of fun
and fright this Halloween as we hosted an evening full of costumes,
candy, and community! From superheroes to princesses and everything in
between, children and families came dressed to impress and the
creativity was on full display. Laughter echoed through our spaces as
young ones enjoyed games, crafts, and, of course, plenty of treats.
Events like these highlight the importance of our after-school programs
in creating safe, joyful environments where youth can express
themselves, build friendships, and make lasting memories. |

In recognition of Breast Cancer
Awareness Month, Sesame Flyers International proudly joined the
community at Kings Plaza for a day of education, support, and
solidarity. Our team was on-site to share vital resources, raise
awareness, and honor the strength and resilience of those affected by
breast cancer. We stood united in the fight against breast cancer,
because awareness saves lives. Together, we continue to uplift and
empower our community, one step at a time.

The spirit of giving is very powerful, particularly at this time of year. Families who are in crisis, at a dark moment in their lives, at literally the darkest point of the year, touched by the kindness of strangers: a bit of light searching for them in the darkness, reassuring them that they as a family will move through the crisis into brighter, lighter days. Initiated by the SFI Winthrop Beacon Parent Council over fifteen years ago, the Tree of Love begins with a Charlie Brown looking holiday tree. The tree is decorated with festive ornaments or “leaves”. Each leaf of the Tree of Love has a label on it that indicates a family composition with age and gender only. A person or team of individuals takes a leaf from the Tree of Love and gathers gifts for “their family”. Unwrapped gifts are placed in a decorative gift bag and returned to the Sesame Flyers Main Office on Church Avenue. All of the gift bags are then collected by a staff member from the shelter and presented to the families at the shelter’s holiday celebration. Last year, members of the Sesame Flyers family were able to reach out to bring holiday cheer to over 20 families. The anonymous gift giving to families living in a DV shelter allowed our Sesame Flyers staff and parents to shine a brilliant light giving warmth and kindness to a number of vulnerable families during the holiday season. We thank all those who participated and invite you to share in this year’s Tree of Love.

Our afterschool program was filled with creativity and cultural pride as
students explored the traditions and cultures of Hispanic heritage.
Through murals, colorful mosaic art, and hands-on projects, our young
creators expressed what this special month means to them. Each piece
reflected their appreciation and celebration of diversity. We’re so
proud of their hard work and artistic spirit! |

The students of Clarkson Campus came out in pink to show their support
for Breast Cancer Awareness. By wearing pink, they honored survivors,
remembered those who have been affected by breast cancer and helped
raise awareness. Their participation reminded us all that even small
acts of support can make a big difference. |
