Culture can be defined as the arts as well as the intangible shared beliefs, values, and practices of a community. The importance of cultural activities is preparing participants for real life and strengthening their personal skills. Cultural activities not only help participants to identify themselves with Sesame Flyers International, but also assist participants to develop themselves in a desired field and also improve skills such as organizational, presentation, leadership and interpersonal communication.

Dance

African & Contemporary Dance Program

Tuesday & Friday | 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM

The Sesame Flyers International Dance Program provides dance opportunities for every participant no matter their level. The diverse program allow participants to study movement from multiple perspectives: through a wide range of movement forms (African, Contemporary, Urban, etc.), and dance theory. Through studying dance, participants alike develop distinct skills in embodiment of knowledge, creative problem solving, and critical thinking that participants can carry with them into a multitude of careers.

Steelpan

Virtual Steelpan

Sharon Spencer | Tuesday & Thursday | 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM

In this program participants will learn the history of the Steel Pan. Develop musical skills such as reading notes, playing, improvising and composing music on Steel drums. Participants will use virtual steel pan program to learn the various melodies of the instrument. The virtual steel pan software will be provided to the participants to download to their phone or computer to develop skills. Some participants will have access to Sesame Flyers International steel drums to utilize for practice at home.
